Work-Life balance in Emirates Group Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Work-Life balance in Emirates Group - Essay Example This implies a point of equipoise or stability between two equally demanding things ââ¬â in this case, work life and family life. People have a natural inclination to seek challenge and achievement as much as the desire to enjoy family relationships and the leisurely company of other people they have an affinity for. WLB is now considered as one of the most important qualities of the workplace, second only to the pay rate, because the physical and psychological stability of workers and employees directly impact on the performance of business firms. The usefulness of WLB in enhancing the operations of firms has been the topic of many academic researches, with varying outcomes. WLB has been known to impact positively on workersââ¬â¢ levels of job satisfaction and morale, reduce stress in both work and family life, enhanced organisational efficiency and effectiveness, and reduction in problems experienced in both areas (Kumar & Chakraborty, 2013). As beneficial as WLB sounds, the practice, while gaining legitimacy as a general principle, has received less than enthusiastic response at the execution level. WLB has not been effectively implemented in many organisations; the causes were determined in a survey conducted by Kumar & Chakraborty (2013), some of which are as follows: Negative or indifferent attitude on the part of top management Lack of faith of supervisors in the effectiveness of WLB benefits Uncertainty and reluctance among employees in adopting WLB in their work schedules Stringent work schedules Dictatorial behaviour of supervisors and top management, and their refusal to plan out flexible work schedules Unavailability and inaccessibility of WLB tools and techniques for workers to implement flexible work schedules. Unsupportive organisational culture for the implementation of WLB Bureaucratic procedures and delay in the formulation and execution of WLB policies and practices. Poor structural framework of the planned WLB programme Inconsistency in infrequency of interaction between management and workers in order to assimilate WLB as a transformative element in organisational life. The foregoing enumeration of impediments to what should be an effortless adoption of WLB is evident in many companies, and will likely continue to pose obstacles to its implementation. According to Smith (2010), however, each succeeding generation of workers tend to come to a greater understanding and acceptance of WLB, thus as they advance in the organization into the supervisory and managerial levels it is expected that the attitude of management towards WLB will also eventually change. So far, what has not appeared to be evident to management is the strategic usefulness of WLB as a competitive advantage, in terms of improved quality of work, improved job performance, ethical decision-making and long-term job satisfaction (Smith, 2010). Four areas for flexible work or leave arrangements Industrial Relations Victoria (IRV), a government sub-uni t under the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, is tasked with monitoring industrial relations in the Stateââ¬â¢s public and private sectors, and with supporting innovations to address the increasingly competitive business environments without engendering additional industrial (IRV, 2013). According to the IRV, a compilation of the research of several government agencies have identified 27 model family friendly clauses that were directly included in various collective agreements. The 27 clauses (which represented the best practices in the industry) may be classified into four based on their nature and subject. They are as follows Services ââ¬â This refers to the provision of service options by the employer organisation for the

Company Analysis of Nestle Corporation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Company Analysis of Nestle Corporation - Essay Example A situational audit is a comprehensive analysis of an organizationââ¬â¢s current state in comparison to its micro and macro economic environment. According to Cherniss and Adler (2000, p. 97), a situational audit helps to establish the organizationââ¬â¢s current situation in relation to its marketing objectives. In addition, a situation analysis identifies the future economic performance of the organization if it continues to use its current strategies. Nestle foods has operations in more than eighty countries globally. The organizations expansion strategy is implemented through joint venture and acquisitions. This report presents a situational audit for Nestle Foods, one of the worldââ¬â¢s largest organizations. It explores the external, competitive, and internal market factors influencing the organization performance. Finally, it provides an analysis of the suitability of the marketing strategy used by the corporation and provides appropriate recommendations. The Internal environment According to Remenyi, Money and Bannister (2007, p.128), the internal analysis of an organization helps to identify the organizationââ¬â¢s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The strengths represent the competencies and resources within the organization, which help it to achieve a competitive position in the industry. Nestle foods has numerous strengths which have helped the organization to become one of the worlds largest corporations.... Nestle Foods has uses a low cost strategy which helps the organization to maintain low cost for all operations. Through the low cost strategy, Nestle Foods is able to offer its consumers competitive prices for its products. In addition, Nestle foods have a highly competitive team of research and development in charge of new product development. Nestle Foods has affiliations with major learning institutions and has developed a university where most of its research and development is conducted. The research and development team has enabled Nestle Foods to differentiate its products from those of its competitors in the industry. Another strength that Nestle Foods has its health based weight-management product line. With the growing popularity of heal th foods in the European market and other countries, this presents a lucrative opportunity for Nestle Foods. According to Remenyi, Money and Bannister (2007, p.128), threats are factors in the business environment which may hinder the successful implementation of an organization strategies. Nestle Foods has undertaken an intensive expansion strategy by venturing in many markets in Europe and other continents. However, most markets in Europe are already saturated which may hinder the successful implementation of the Nestle Foodââ¬â¢s expansion strategy in European markets. For example, when Nestle Foods launched its yoghurt, Yoplait, in France, it failed to acquire a large market share because Danone is the established brand of yoghurt in the country. Nestle

Leadership is even more significant in crisis situation. Helio Fred in his article, ââ¬Å"Effective leadership response to crisisââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ states that the organization generally survives a crisis with reputation by the timeliness as well as the effectiveness of the response which heavily depends upon the strategic focus and implementation of the policies by the leaders of any organization (Garcia, 2006). The paper directs towards the exh ibition of leadership with respect to an organization in times of crisis situation and how the leadership maintain the pace of operation in difficult times and shows the way for future growth which will be highlighted in the subsequent sections. Problem statement & Discussions The positions of the leadership are established in the settings of the work of the organizations for the purpose of achieving the purposes for which their existence is omnipotent within a larger system. The crux of the paper lies with the notion of organizational leadership. In an organization, the processes of leadership are generally directed towards defining, establishing as well as translating the direction for their followers with the provision of the enabling the process for the achievement of the purpose. The operation of the leadership is vehemently attached to the continuous development as well as attainment of the goals within the organizations (Zaccaro & Klimoski, n.d.). The company which will be di scussed in this paper is Hewlett Packard better known as HP. HP is an American multinational corporation with its headquarters in Palo Alto, California. The sectors where the company caters are mainly small and medium sized businesses and large enterprises as well as customers in the government, health and educational sectors and the products delivered by this company are software, technologies, solution s and services (Hewlett-Packard Co, n.d.). In the time span of 1995- 1999, the company was facing several restraints like fierce competition from the traditional competitors as well as new competitors entering into the market. In the field of computer as well as corporate computer business the biggest rivals of HP were Dell and IBM. The company lacked performance in the sphere of technology as well as field of innovation and encountered slow pace of growth. The aftermath was that the company lost its competitive edge among its competitors unable to develop any path breaking strategy for growth. Another significant cause of the generation of crisis situation was that of the serious bureaucracy within the organization itself which practically paralyzed the day to day operation of the organization and initiated severe inefficiencies and heavy decline in sales (Hoopes, 2001, p.4). But the situation changed with the appointment of Carleton S. Fiorina as the new Chief

Submit short report that assembles the teams final results for tackling a problem or creating a solution to the project - Essay Example It is affordable to all patients and readily available as the system is flexible, can move from one place to another. Congestion in hospitals by patients with fatal chronical diseases need to be at lower levels by administering health programs via PHM systems. It helps hospitals deliver a variety of health services to a greater population resulting in improvement in health conditions. A nation with improvement in health sectors obtains tremendous benefits like it readily consist of healthy individuals to provide labor. Improves countryââ¬â¢s productivity reduces death rates to significant levels and provides the country with the chance of having innovation and creativity as well. The PHM project requires electronically intensive equipments making use of decision support systems. This reduces the manual work fatigue to medical staff if they are to perform the work, therefore; there is a reduction in workload of the medical staff. However, the system contains errors that would result in wrong medical description or diagnosis to the patients. The problems are in two classifications the system error and human errors. The system errors include the syntax and logical anomalies, which may be due to system malfunction. The errors can be because of overloading the systems or as well as unexpected errors, which would require repetition of the ongoing process to get the correct results. The human errors serve as the main setback towards achieving the set objectives of the program. The set objectives being, provision of sufficient medical attention to patients with chronic diseases. It is unfortunate and ironic that human beings have the audacity to be the factor that the project fails to be 100% successful. The significant human errors includes Although patients include false information in order to get medical treatment, it is unfortunate as there would be wrong results that can cause serious problems for both the p[patient and

Analytical Method Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Analytical Method - Essay Example This formed the problem statement for the article thereby triggering the researchers to seek for the most appropriate tools and techniques for achieving their objectives. In which case, the researchers provide the theoretical background asserting that the chemical analysis of GSR can either focus on inorganic or organic components of the analyte therein. Intuitively, flame ionization detector (FID), thermal energy analysis (TEA), electron capture detector (ECD) and mass spectrometry (MS) together with Gas chromatography are important aspects which could be considered in this OGSR analysis. For the methods and materials, the use of MS/MS mode guided in explicit identification of target analyte. The researchers majorly focused on liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LCââ¬âMS/MS) coupled with GC; as evident in the use of LCââ¬âMS grade methanol used in the mobile phase and in Chromatographic analysis was performed on an Agilent 1200 Series HPLC system coupled with a hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The QTOF system was core to facilitating analysis in MS or MS/MS mode. The researchers carried out accurate mass measurement of the precursor ion, within MS spectra, mass measurement of the most specific product ion, and the retention time of the analyte compared with the retention time of the standard. Swabs were compared with home-modified tape lift supports covered with a PTFE layer to determine the better sampling technique. The modified tape lift provided better extraction recoveries and enabled the analysis of inorganic and organic G SR simultaneously. In Optimization of LCââ¬âQTOF in MS/MS mode parameters, different columns were tested to ensure optimization of the composition of the mobile phase through unequivocally separating and ionizing the analytes. In which case, chances for getting false positive and false negative results

Nuevo Hotel Budgeting Control Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Nuevo Hotel Budgeting Control - Essay Example For its management Nuevo adopted the normal Comodo team-structure, consisting of the General Manager with a five-member advisory 'Board of Directors' and ten independent business unit (IBU) managers. This organisational arrangement was "intended to generate a flexible and entrepreneurial spirit, so promoting creativity and risk taking while still ensuring sound responsibility and accountability". It was also intended to emphasise "empowerment, teamwork and knowledge-sharing - enabling all management and staff to use their initiatives and 'do what they have been trained to do' in order to provide an outstanding standard of service". Nancy Foster, an experienced and highly respected GM in the Comodo group was appointed as GM of Nuevo, to be assisted by a management team, some of whose members had been experienced in and imbued with the 'management culture' of Comodo, while the others, experienced in hospitality business shared Comodo's mission of making it "the best business and leisur e hotel company in the world", through their energetic, committed and responsible work., 'which always exceeded their guests' expectations'. Nancy was very experienced as a GM, but this was her first experience of 'opening' a new property. She thought it obligatory for her to make Nuevo the 'standard-bearer' for Comodo Group's "UK and European operations in the rapidly evolving 'information/virtual' age". To achieve this she thought it wise and prudent to involve the entire management team in developing key control systems for the hotel. She was well aware, of course, that management control system was a 'two-edged sword' in that while it could influence employee behaviour to achieve the company's goals, it could also "lead to large losses and possibly even to organisational failure". The team had already completed the management system in almost all areas of hotel management except in the important area of 'management accounting controls, including establishing the hotel's first budget'. In the management team meeting held to chalk out this problem, what emerged was the implications of the benefits and drawbacks of the ' traditional' budgeting procedures for designing an effective budget control system for Nuevo. Traditional Budget Control System Traditionally 'management teams of Comodo hotels usually based their first few annual income budgets on the feasibility study projections carried out to 'inform' the decision to invest in the project'. This helps the Home Office to get an early view of how the hotel is doing compared with the project appraisal. But then, these would be outdated in that they were drawn up years ago, and in the case of Nuevo, three years ago. Nancy wanted the first year budget proposal handed down to them by the Home Office to be revised because since the time of the project report two other hotels had come up in Manchester and competition had become 'hot'. However, Nuevo's Finance director advised Nancy to go long with the Home Office because everyone would be busy in
Terry v Ohio Stop Question Frisk Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Terry v Ohio Stop Question Frisk - Essay Example In conducting a stop and frisk, police officers are acting on a reasonable suspicion that either the officers or others are in danger of being harmed. In such circumstances, police officers may conduct a reasonable search of the individual for weapons. This investigatory power exists independent of whether or not there is probable cause for affecting an arrest or whether or not the officers in question are entirely sure that the person is actually armed and dangerous (Terry v Ohio 1968). The US Supreme Court defined the circumstances in which a stop, question and frisk would not exceed the boundaries of the Fourth Amendment. First, while warrants for search and seizure are the preferred way, there are times where police officers must act quickly and in such a case a stop and frisk may be appropriate. Secondly, the search and seizure must be reasonable in the circumstances and reasonableness is judged from the perspective of the reasonable ââ¬Å"man of cautionâ⬠(Terry v Ohio 1968). Thirdly, a stop and frisk is appropriate when the police officer in question is investigating a reasonably suspicious behavior. Fourthly, in such circumstances, if the police officer perceives that the individual acting suspiciously is armed, the officer may conduct a reasonable search to determine whether or not this is the case. Fifthly, where an officer is justified in searching/frisking the individual for weapons, where there is no probable cause for arrest, the frisk must corre spond with the circumstances of the case. Finally, in all circumstances where an officer reasonably fears that there is danger such an officer may ââ¬Å"make an intrusion short of arrestâ⬠(Terry v Ohio 1968). According to Stolarik (2013), the practice of stopping, questioning and frisking by New York City Police has gotten out of control and there has been significant controversy over whether or not these practices are consistent with the protection against unreasonable search and seizure under
